Dr. James V. O'Connor (Director of Forensic Medicine) is a Physician with over 20 years of experience. He is Board-Certified in General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. He is a Professor of Surgery and Chief of Thoracic and Vascular Trauma at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
After earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, he completed a Master of Science degree in Bioengineering, both at the Polytechnic University of New York. He then graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Downstate Medical School in New York. Following medical school, Dr. O'Connor completed a General Surgery Residency and became a Cardiothoracic Research Fellow at the Downstate Medical Center. He also completed a Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia and a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship in at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
